Self-Efficacy, Health and Well-Being
SELF Project Line 3
Given that migration is often at least a highly stressful, if not even adverse experience (varying from loneliness to depression in its effects), dissertation projects in Project Line 3 address various aspects of the self, self-regulation and external influences on health behavior change. Previous research has on the one hand shown that self-construal has important consequences for how individuals subjectively construe and deal with stress, and on the other hand that self-efficacy is a central, possibly universal psychological variable in enabling individuals to achieve their self-set health goals. Yet, the relationship between self-construal and self-efficacy, social support and decreased loneliness/higher connectedness is understudied so far. Filling this research gap in the context of migration would hence be the central goal of dissertation projects in this project line.
